Clubs get share of Champions League revenue

Sides in the UEFA Champions League group stage will be guaranteed a minimum payment of €7.2m as their share of the competition revenue to be redistributed among clubs. Teams taking part in this season's UEFA Champions League group stage can expect to receive a minimum €7.2m and the team that goes on to win the trophy could collect €31.5m, not counting the market pool share. This is according to the UEFA Champions League revenue distribution system for the forthcoming 2011/12 campaign.
Each of the 32 clubs involved in the group stage will receive a participation bonus of €3.9m. In addition, they will be entitled to a match bonus of €550,000 per match played in the group stage. Performance bonuses will also see €800,000 paid for every win and €400,000 for every draw in the group stage.
The sides competing in the round of 16 can also expect to pick up €3m each, the quarter-finalists €3.3m and the semi-finalists €4.2m. The UEFA Champions League winners will receive €9m and the runners-up €5.6m.
Meanwhile, the winners of the 2011 UEFA Super Cup, FC Barcelona, will earn €2.5m and the runners-up, FC Porto, €2m. The estimated gross commercial revenue from the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super Cup is €1,100m.
Of that estimated gross commercial revenue, €55m will be allocated exclusively to the play-off rounds: each club participating in the play-offs will collect a fixed amount of €2.1m. Moreover, as applied in the competition's 200609 cycle, €10.3m will be reserved for the solidarity payments awarded to the teams eliminated in the qualifying phase of the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.
Some 75% of the total revenue from media rights and commercial contracts concluded by UEFA, up to a maximum of €530m, will go to the clubs, while the remaining 25% will be reserved for European football and remain with UEFA to cover organisational and administrative costs and solidarity payments to associations, clubs and leagues.
A total of 82% of any revenue received from the same stream in excess of €530m will go to the clubs, with the other 18% allocated to European football and remaining with UEFA for the purposes listed above.
The estimated available amount of €341.1m from the television market pool will be distributed according to the proportional value of each TV market represented by the teams involved in the UEFA Champions League (from the group stage onwards), and will be split among those sides participating from a given association.
The 16 sides that reached the first knockout round all collected €3m, the eight quarter-finalists €3.3m apiece, and the four semi-finalists €4.2m each. For appearing in the final, winners FC Barcelona pocketed €9m and runners-up Manchester United FC €5.6m. It follows, then, that any team winning all six group stage matches would have been entitled to €12m, a figure that would have risen immediately to €15m because that club would also have qualified for the last 16.
On top of the overall figure of €413m distributed in fixed amounts, a further €341.1m was assigned to participating sides via the market pool based on the commercial value of their domestic television market, the number of UEFA Champions League games they played and their final position in the domestic league table in 2009/10. Clubs also retained home gate receipts.
Moreover, €55m was allotted exclusively for the UEFA Champions League play-off round, meaning each of the 20 teams featuring in the play-offs earned a fixed amount of €2.1m. A further €13.3m was also reserved for solidarity payments to clubs eliminated in the three qualifying rounds while additional solidarity payments for national associations and leagues totalled €69.9m.

Clubs rewarded by Europa League participation

The revenue distribution in place for the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League entitles clubs to participation, match and performance-related bonuses from the group stage onwards. UEFA has released details of the revenue to be expected from this season's UEFA Europa League.
Based on the commercial sales to date, gross commercial revenue from the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League is estimated at about €200m and the distribution plan is based on this figure. Some 75% of the gross revenue from media rights and commercial contracts will go to the clubs involved from the group stage onwards, with the remaining 25% reserved for European football and staying with UEFA to cover organisational and administrative costs.
Based on gross income of €200m, the share for distribution to the clubs will amount to €150m, with €90m in fixed payments and €60m in variable amounts (market pool) which will be distributed according to the proportional value of each television market represented by the clubs taking part in the UEFA Europa League (group stage onwards).
Each of the 48 clubs involved in the group stage can expect to receive a participation bonus of €640,000. In addition, they will be entitled to a match bonus of €60,000 per match played in the group stage. Performance bonuses will also be paid €140,000 for every win and €70,000 for every draw in the group stage.
Turning to the knockout stages, clubs competing in the round of 32 will receive €200,000 each, clubs in the round of 16 €300,000, the quarter-finalists €400,000 and the semi-finalists €700,000. The UEFA Europa League winners can expect to collect €3m and the runners-up €2m.
It is anticipated that a minimum amount of €1m per club will be paid out for the group stage. A club could receive, at best, €6.44m from featuring in this season's competition not counting the market pool share.

De inkomsten uit de market pool verschillen enorm per land, want deze is onder meer afhankelijk van opbrengsten uit tv-gelden in de verschillende landen. Clubs uit bv Engeland en Spanje krijgen daardoor een veel groter deel uit deze pot dan bv clubs uit NL.
Voorbeeldjes, vorig seizoen verdiende Twente en Ajax zo'n 4-5 miljoen uit deze market pool. Zij waren na de poulefase uitgeschakeld in de CL. MSK Zilina verdiende echter maar een half miljoen. Auxerre kreeg alweer 6,5 miljoen. OOk die clubs waren uitgeschakeld na de poulefase.
Ook het aantal clubs dat uit 1 land vertegenwoordigd is, is van invloed op het geld dat je uit de market pool ontvangt. Frankrijk was in dat jaar, net als NL, met 2 landen vertegenwoordigd. |

| yup, en om nog maar even het verschil aan te halen tussen de EL en de CL, winnaar van de EL, Porto kreeg in totaal een kleine 8 miljoen. PSV kwam tot iets meer dan 3 miljoen (zij haalden de kwartfinale vorig seizoen). De slechts verdienende ploeg uit de CL, MSK Zilina, haalde eveneens een kleine 8 miljoen, die verloren bovendien alles. Tel uit je winst. |
